President Solih to pay for his own ticket to Qatar following public scrutiny

After heavy criticism, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to finance his own ticket to visit Qatar, to watch a World Cup match live.

The administration revealed that the Government of Qatar will arrange accommodation and food for President Solih.

However, TMJ learned that the president’s security team and the expenses of all other individuals in his delegation will be borne by the state.

In a press conference at the President's Office, Spokesperson, Miuvaan Mohamed stated that the Qatar Prince or the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had extended an invitation to President Solih to see a FIFA World Cup 2022 match live at the stadium. However, the President Office has not confirmed the dates for his departure, nor which matches he will be attending.

Miuvaan had previously speculated that President Solih will possibly time his visit to Qatar to watch the final or one of the semi-final matches. The semi-final and final matches are expected to take place mid-December.

The ongoing round is between the 16 qualifying teams from the group stage at the quadrennial world tournament.
