Addu fish factories project still pending!

The establishment of neighborhood fish factories in Addu, a campaign vow of the presiding administration, remains unfulfilled.
The neighborhood fish factories project was initiated with the help of the Indian Government, in Addu City. .
While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih commenced work on a fish factory only in Addu, three fish processing plants were planned to be built in Addu City.
The work of S. Hithadhoo Neighborhood Fish Factory began on May 28, 2020 and the government expected to have it running by July 31, 2021.
The work of S. Hulhumeedhoo Neighborhood Fish Factory began on July 22, 2020 and the government expected to have it running by August 2, 2021.
Additionally, the work of S. Maradhoo Neighborhood Fish Factory also began on July 22, 2020 and the government expected to have it running by August 23, 2021.
While a year has passed since the expected date of project completion, people have criticized the government for their lack of progress on all three projects.
TMJ reached out to the Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar for an update on the Neighborhood Fish Plants project. However, despite assuring to call back with an update, the mayor never reached out.
In addition to the neighborhood fish factories, the government promised to build fishing platforms, the opportunity to sell freshly caught fish directly to foreign buyers, were a part of the fisheries manifesto of the government during the 2018 election.
