Former president and the leader of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), President Mohamed Nasheed has decided to contest in the MDP primary to run for the presidency in 2023 and is set to launch his campaign efforts at GDh. Thinadhoo.
His campaign is scheduled to launch on December 2, 2022, Friday.
In preparations for the primary election, Nasheed’s supporters have created a campaign WhatsApp Group by the name of “Anni Primary'' with the aim of securing votes for President Nasheed. Many of his supporters have been joining the group.
Screenshots of a conversation within the WhatsApp Group has been circulating on social media.
Mohamed Shahid (Saabe), a veteran member of MDP who is in charge of Nasheed’s campaign had stated in his message to the group that the first plan of action must be to try to re-register the 36,000 “hard-core” MDP members who had been removed after the most recent congress.
With the message, Saabe had shared a phone number to call to acquire MDP member registration forms, constituency lists, fingerprint pads and pens.
