It was revealed that four cabinet ministers of the government of Maldives are on four different official trips in four continents.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mahloof is attending the International Sports Summit held in Brisbane, Australia and Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom is attending the World Travel Market, London, in United Kingdom, Europe.
Additionally, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Ahmed Aslam is in America, with senior management officials from multiple SOEs.
Finally, the Environment Minister Aminath Shauna is attending the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27), in Egypt, Africa, with the Vice President Faisal Naseem.
Due to the global economic crises, where the cost of goods and services have been climbing higher and higher on the global market and inflation is beyond help, Finance Ministry circulated a memo advicing government offices and SOEs to travel only when absolutely necessary.
However, the government has been sending their officials on international trips, hiring political appointees and hosting various events, without any significant attempts to minimize its expenditure.
