The Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Miuvaan Mohamed said that the president has not been meeting with the press, once a month as promised, because he was too busy and had no free time.
Prior to coming into office, President Solih vowed to meet with the press once every month, however, had not delivered on his promise. When TMJ raised the question, Miuvaan said that the president had no free time to meet the media.
So far, President Solih has met the media just once this year. His press conference in June came after 9 months of evading the media.
Even though Miuvaan had feigned busy schedules for President Solih’s lack of engagement with the press, the president continues to share pictures of him playing sports, swimming, and other such activities.
Furthermore, despite the limited number of press conferences, each journalist is allowed just one question and sometimes not all journalists even get to pose a question.
People have speculated that the president avoids confronting the press because he cannot answer all the questions directed at him.
