Inmate dies in custody

An inmate who was in custody has died at Maafushi prison.
Maldives Correctional Service revealed that a 43-year-old inmate, imprisoned till verdict, was found dead in his cell last night.

Corrections said that Mohamed Nasheed, Hudhufinifenmaage, M. Muli was found unresponsive by his cellmate. He was taken to Maafushi Prison Medical Center and given CPR immediately.

Corrections reported that he remained unresponsive and his death was called at 17:56.

Mohamed Nasheed was imprisoned for a drug-related case.

Corrections has notified the family of the deceased as well as the necessary authorities; Inspector of Correctional Service, Maldives Police Service, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, and National Integrity Commission.
