Govt pays Hussain Rasheed Ahmed hefty salary of MVR 166,837

Hussain Rasheed Ahmed, Minister Counselor at the Maldivian Embassy located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, receives over 2 million in remuneration from the government annually.
TMJ has learnt that he earns a monthly salary of MVR 166,837 which constitutes to MVR 2,002,047 annually.
Hussain Rasheed was the leader of Adhaalath Party who had eventually joined MDP. He has been at the forefront of defending the former president and Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed’s islamophobic statements.
Additionally, Hussain Rasheed was also a member of the commission gathered to investigate the acts of corruption done during President Maumoon’s administration. The commission’s ill conduct against the Financial Act surfaced at a much later date.
The Breakdown of Hussain Rasheed’s Annual Income
⁃ Basic Salary: MVR 216,000
⁃ Ramadan Allowance: MVR 3000
⁃ Special Allowance to the Post: MVR 122,682
⁃ Commuting Allowance: MVR 90,485
⁃ Dependance Allowance: MVR 1.233,662
⁃ Other Allowances: MVR 336,218
This brings his total annual income to MVR 2,002,047.
Amongst the various allowances given to Hussain Rasheed, he earns the most, MVR 1.23 million, in dependence allowance. His dependents include his spouse and a child.
According to the information shared with TMJ by the Foreign Ministry, Minister Counselor residing in the Maldivian Embassy in Saudi Arabia is set to receive MVR 18,602 monthly in the case of two dependents. However, Hussain Rasheed earns this amount five-fold each month, which is MVR 102,805 monthly as a dependence allowance.
Multiple people employed at numerous embassies are being paid hefty amounts by the government as income and it has become profound and noticeable within the handful of years President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration has been active.
It is also evident that higher-up positions within these embassies and other organizations are mostly filled by relatives, friends and well wishers of MDP members. Especially in Europian countries and countries such as USA and Japan, it seems like there’s no room for anyone other than people directly related to the ruling party.
Even though more qualified and capable individuals for these positions exist, they are given “leftover consideration” when recommendations from their immediate and non-immediate circles dwindle.
