President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is to appoint Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as Ambassador of the Maldives to the United States.
He is to replace Thilmeeza Hussain, the current Ambassador.
The decision has been forwarded to the Parliament, as announced by the Parliament’s Secretary General in Monday’s Parliament session.
Mohamed is presently serving as Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed to the position in May 2021.
The present Ambassador, Thilmeeza was appointed to the position in April 2019. As of now, there are no reports of what her portfolio would be after she is recalled.
