Pres Waheed warns of grim consequences if economy is not managed

Former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has issued a grim warning on the economy, stating that we would be ‘kneeling with a begging bowl’ if we fail to manage the economy.
The former President now serves as an advisor for the opposition Progressive Congress Coalition.
In his tweet the former President tagged several issues as red flags. These include the differing views of the Government and the Centra Bank, excessive money supply, mounting debt, unplanned wage raises, lack of FDI, and dollar shortages.
“Learn from Sri Lanka” he said.
In spite of mounting debt and sluggish economic growth, the Government remains clam, laying the blame on covid.
