Party is divided, but can work together: Fayyaz

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) chairperson-elect Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail says that the Party is divided but can work together to achieve their aims.
Speaking to press after Saturday’s win at the polls, Minister Fayyaz said that he bore no ill will towards anyone, even towards those who had maligned him and his supporters during the campaigning.
Minister Fayyaz and his faction were accused of using state resources for votes. Minster Fayyaz won 58 percent of the vote, while his opponent North Maafannu Constituency MP Imthiyaz Fahmy won 42 percent of votes.
Fayyaz refuted the rumors that he was leading an effort to silence Party leader former President Mohamed Nasheed. Stating that there was only politics, Fayyaz said that there was no personal agenda. He added that it was quite easy to work with Nasheed.
“Nasheed is an easy person to work with, I look forward to working with him. I am a politician, no hidden agendas on my part. I believe President Nasheed is of the same caliber,”

Minister Fayaaz did not deny that there was deep divide within the Party, caused by the elections. However, he said that MDP was no stranger to such hotly contested elections, and that MDP had always rallied together after such elections.
“No doubt that Party is divided. And I have no doubt that we can work together. Whatever that was said during campaigns will be different once [all] accept the result and work together,"
