Do not believe that President Solih will contest a second term: Nasheed

Parliament Speaker former President Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that he did not believe that incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will contest for a second term.

In an interview to Dhivehi Channel, Nasheed added that whoever who will contest in the 2023 elections from ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) would be determined from an internal primary.

Nasheed said that he intends to contest in the primary, win the ticket, and contest in next year’s Presidential elections.

He also said that he has had discussions with President Solih on the issue, adding that the President had not given any indications that he intended to run for a second term.
