Police removes India Out banner in Naifaru

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has removed a banner hung in Naifaru Island in Lhaviyani atoll, calling for the ouster of Indian military officials in the country.
The banner was hung on the headquarters of opposition Progressive Congress Coalition in the island.
MPS had issued an official notice to remove the banner, which was then ignored by the officials at the headquarters. MPS then sought out a court order to remove the banner and removed it.
Over the past few weeks, MPS had removed such banners in the capital Male’. Owners of residences with such banners displayed had also been summoned to MPS.
The crackdown on the India Out movement began after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih criminalized it, by a Presidential decree.
The movement calls for the removal of Indian military officials stationed in various parts of the country. originally a grassroots movement, it gained traction after former President and opposition leader Abdullah Yameen championed the movement.
