Russia asks Maldives to cater to Russian flights

Russian Transport Ministry has requested the Government of Maldives to provide services to flights from the country, on arrival at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A letter sent from Russian aviation authority to Civil Aviation Authority said that other nations have closed off air space to Russian flights. The letter went on to add that these measures were a violation of international aviation agreements and accords.
The letter requested for a guarantee that VIA staff will service eight planes registered under Aeroflot. The eight planes are Airbus planes. Russians also assured that the planes were up to safety standards.
The letter concluded by expressing their desire for further collaboration.
