Govt Should Grant Promised 1,000 Plots to Male's Residents Without Charge: Dr Muizzu

Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Mayor of the Male City Council, has proposed that the 1,000 plots of land that the government has promised to grant to Male City's residents be granted without charge.
In a tweet he had posted yesterday morning, he said that the first that he had heard of the 1,000 plots of land was through the media.
"I have requested the President in writing that the 1,000 plots of land; which, according to the media, are to be granted to the residents of Male City; be granted without charge, as is the practice in other islands of the Maldives", he had tweeted.
Dr Muizzu had, on previous occasions, stated that land plots be granted to residents of Male City as is the practice done in other islands of the Maldives.
In a release issued to the media, Dr Muizzu had said that land reclaimed in other islands of the Maldives are granted without charge. He said that charging for land reclaimed in the Greater Male Region is unfair.
In this year's presidential address, President Solih had claimed that 5,000 plots of land would be reclaimed in the Greater Male Region. These would be 1,000 plots from Hulhumale, 2,000 from Gulhifalhu, and 2,000 from the reclaimed lagoon of Giraavaru.
