Kaadedhdhoo Airport Returned to Villa

The airport in Kaadedhdhoo (Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll) has been returned to Villa Air's management. The agreement to returning the airport was signed between Villa Air and the Ministry of Transport today.
The management of Kaadedhdhoo Airport had first been handed over to Villa Air's management for a period of 50 years. However, the agreement was later scrapped by the Yameen administration.
Villa went to court and got a Supreme Court verdict in their favour. The Supreme Court ruled that the airport be returned to Villa's management.
Villa had previously told the media that they would take over management of the airport once they were granted rights to the lagoons or the uninhabited islands that they were supposed to receive with the airport. The company had said that they were in talks with the government regarding the matter.
State Minister Ahmed Zuhair of the Transport Ministry had previously said that the agreement between the government and Villa was being delayed because of delays in finalising what assets were to be granted to Villa in return for managing the airport.
Villa's chairman Qasim Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of the company. The Ministry has not disclosed what assets had been promised to Villa in return for managing the airport.
