Brig. Gen. Abdullah Zuhuree has been appointed as head of intelligence at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
Brig. Gen. Zuhuree replaces Vice Chief of Defence Brig. Gen. Abdur-Raheem Abdul Latheef.
Brig. Gen. Zuhuree had served as head of intelligence at MNDF during the Yameen administration. He had been transferred from his post following the many changes that had been made to the heirarchy of the MNDF following the February 2018 judicial coup attempt.
Brig. Gen. Abdul-Latheef served as head of intelligence under the Solih administration so far, and had been the head of intelligence when Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed was nearly killed in an assassination attempt on 6 May 2021.
Zuhuree had been promoted to the post of Brigadier-General in the past year, and he had been appointed as commander of intelligence in the past month.
Brig. Gen. Zuhuree has experience in heading the MNDF's Southern Command, the command of the Presidential Guard, and the command of the MNDF's Fire and Rescue.
