Vice Admiral Athir Muhthar; the Pakistani ambassador to the Maldives; has stated that the Muslim Ummah needed to work to find a solution to the Kashmir issue.
Muhtar stated this during an event held at the High Commission of Pakistan in the Maldives to commemorate Kashmir Solidarity Day.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is annually observed by Pakistan on February 5. The day is observed in support and unity of the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, the efforts of Kashmiri separatists to secede from India, and in memory of Kashmiris who had died in the conflict.
Muhtar said that the United Nations recognised that Kashmir should be free, and that the Indian government has killed hundreds of thosuands of Kashmiris and has committed several violations of human rights in the region.
He said that international human rights organisations have taken note of the Indian government's atrocities, and he mentioned that more than 900,000 Indian troops are currently active in Kashmir.
Muhtar said that India was currently working to alter the regions Muslim-majority demographics by populating the region with Hindus.
He said that India has destroyed the peace and security of the region, and he said that the Muslim Ummah could provide a solution.
Deputy Head of Mission Zulqarnain Ahmed also spoke at the event.
Ahmed mentioned that India had conducted several atrocities in Kashmir, and was responsible for actions such as blinding young Kashmiri men.
Videos of India's human rights violations in Kashmir were also screened at the event. The event was concluded with a general prayer asking for mercy for Kashmiri Muslims who had been killed by Indian forces, and for Kashmir to be free.
