Health Centre Projects For Kin'bidhoo And Kan'doodhoo Remain Virtually Abandoned Since 2020

Although the contracted projects to complete the Kin'bidhoo and Kan'doodhoo (Thaa Atoll) health centres have exceeded their completion deadlines, no work relating to the projects have been done except for cleaning up the land prepared for the projects.
The construction of Kin'bidhoo Health Centre had been contracted on 3 December 2020, to be completed within 300 days. A Man Maldives Pvt Ltd was contracted with carrying out the the MVR 1.53 million project.
President of the Kin'bidhoo Council, Ali Hussain, said that nothing towards the project had been except for demolishing the structures on the designated land and cleaning it up. He said that he did not have further information about the project, but that he had received word that work would begin "very soon".
The Ministry of Health contracted Duplex Pvt Ltd the MVR 1.39 million project to construct Kan'doodhoo Health Centre on 3 December 2020, as well. This project also had a deadline of 300 days.
Ahmed Reehan, President of the Kan'doodhoo Council told The Maldives Journal that no work had been done beyond cleaning up and preparing the land designated for the project.
Reehan had said that they had spoken with the Health Ministry regarding the project's delay. He said that there was no progress. He said that the previous contract to develop Kan'doodhoo Health Centre had been nullified, and a new contractor had not yet been found for the project.
These are two examples of several projects initiated by the Solih administration that have been virtually abandoned.
The government had published plans for the development of hospitals in three islands two years ago. No work towards implementing any of the published plans had been done since then.
