Maldives' Number Of Positive Covid-19 Samples Exceeds China

The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives has exceeded the number of positive test results in China; the country with the world's largest population.

As yesterday, the number of positive test results for Covid-19 in the Maldives has reached 106,595. The number of positive test results in China is 105,258.

The Maldives' population; including expatriates of other nationalities; as of its last census is about 500,000. China, on the other hand, has 1.4 billion people.

Covid-19 was first detected in China's Wuhan province in December 2019. The first case of the disease was detected in the Maldives five months later, in April 2020.

Many have blamed government policies for the virus' rapid spread throughout the Maldives.
