Unbudgeted Land Reclamation Project Announced For Komandoo Weeks Before Bi-Election

The Komandoo Council has announced that a project to connect the two islands of Komandoo would be initiated on Friday.
Mohamed Sinan, the president of the Komandoo Council, told the press that the work to join the two islands of Komandoo would begin on Friday, as per what had been planned by the Council and the Planning Ministry. Although Sinan did not disclose which company would be contracted to carry out the task, the work of land-reclamation in the Maldives is carried out by the MTCC.
The Council would, therefore, utilise the Maha-Jarraf dredger, purchased by the MTCC during the Yameen administration as a means of making land reclamation projects in the Maldives easier and cheaper for the State.
It is worth noting that the project to join the two islands of Komandoo, which had not been planned for in the 2022 State Budget, was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during a speech made at a ceremony held to inaugurate the campaign for the MDP's candidate for the newly-vacated Komandoo parliamentary seat.
Actions that are taken to influence the outcomes of elections are generally classified as corruption. However, given that all of the members of the Anti-Corruption Commission had resigned recently, the Maldives currently has no state institution to investigate the matter.
