JP Declines To Contest For Komandoo Seat Out Of Respect For Hussain Waheed: JP

Jumhooree Party, one of the members of the MDP-led ruling coalition, has announced that they would not be contesting for the Komandoo parliamentary seat out of respect for Hussain Waheed; the MDP representative for Komandoo who died of cancer recently; and his family.
Although the Jumhooree Party had been public about their intentions to not contest for the seat, they had never disclosed their reason until now.
An official of the JP told an online newspaper that they had decided not to contest for the Komandoo seat out of respect for Hussain Waheed and his family, and they also stated that Waheed's family should make the decision on who would best carry out his work.
Currently, the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MPD), the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the newly-formed Maldives National Party (MNP) will run for the Majlis seat.
The Secretary General of the Shaviyani Foakaidhoo Council, Mohamed Rasheed, has been chosen as MDP's candidate for the seat; he had served as the president of the Foakaidhoo Council for three consecutive terms. PPM chose Moosa Fathuhy, who had served as the Deputy Ministry at the Economic Ministry under the Yameen administration. Fathuhy, who had served in many roles in government, had also previously served as the president of the Shaviyani Atoll Council. The MNP chose Abdul Hannan Idhrees, who had previously worked in education.
