The Finance Ministry’s statistics show that the State had spent MVR158.4 million on travel expenses in the past year.
The statistics published annually by the Finance Ministry shows that the government had spent a total of MVR158.4 million on travel expenses between 1 January 2021 and 23 December 2021.
The budgeted travel expenses for 2020 had been MVR 172.3 million, although only MVR128.6 million had been spent.
Similarly, MVR172.3 million had also been budgeted for this year. While this year’s expenditure had increased, it is worth noting that the government had refused to disclose information about some of those travel expenses.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had cost the State MVR 16.4 million in travel expenses during his first year in office.
As a candidate on the campaign trail, Solih had mentioned in an interview that he loved to travel to see different countries of the world.
