Man Who Defecated In Mosque Released From Police Custody

A man who had defecated inside a mosque has been released from police custody.

The police had announced that they had arrested a 47-year-old man in connection to the crime.

The Maldives Police Service had later stated that the suspect had a medical condition which could get worse if he remained in custody, as per the evaluation of medical professionals. The police announced that the man had been returned to the care of his family.

Ali Nizar, the mayor of Addu City, had previously mentioned that the perpetrator of the desecration most likely had had a mental illness.
