Riyaz To Travel To Malaysia To Interrogate Luthfy To Build Case Against Yameen

The Maldives Journal has learned that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Riyaz, will be travelling to Malaysia to interrogate Hassan Luthfy, the former President of the Anti-Corruption Commission. Luthfy is currently residing in Malaysia.
Although a trip to Malaysia comprising of the Commssion of Deaths and Disappearances and the Maldives Police Services had been scheduled for tomorrow, neither institution has disclosed any information regarding the trip.
However, according to reliable sources, Assistant Commissioner Riyaz will be meeting with Luthfy. As per the sources, Riyaz would attempt to threaten Luthfy into testifying against former President Abdullah Yameen regarding the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation scandal.
Luthfy had been named by the State as a witness against the former President in the now-overturned Criminal Court case which had sentenced the former President to five years in prison. Luthfy had refused to testify, and he had sent a letter to the Criminal Court stating that the State was threatening him into testifying.
Luthfy had also left the country prior to the start of the court proceedings.
Riyaz had previously traveled to the United Kingdom to speak with former heads of SOF Pvt Ltd to record their statements in an attempt to collect evidence against the former President.
A source had commented that Riyaz’s practices went against standard police procedures and were influenced by the orders and instructions of politicians.
