Yameen To Travel To Islands To Gain Support For Anti-India Petition

The opposition coalition has announced that the opposition leader, former President Abdullah Yameen, will be travelling to the islands to gain support for the “Defend Maldives” petition.
The announcement was made at a conference held at the PPM’s head office last night by PNC Vice President, and the Hulhumalé Member for the Malé City Council, Ibrahim Shujau.
“We will travel to the islands with President Yameen”, said Shujau. “You citizens should, from this point onwards, work towards getting signatures for this petition that we had made on the President’s instruction.”
The former President would observe the work done in the islands and express his gratitude towards the residents.
Since his acquittal by the Supreme Court, the former President had instructed the opposition to intensify the “India Out” movement. Although originally a grassroots movement, the political opposition had adopted the “India Out” movement which calls for the immediate removal of all Indian military and assets from the Maldives and the nullification of all secret military agreements made between India and the Solih administration.
The former President had officially declared, last Friday, that there was no place for “a single pair of [Indian military] boots” in the Maldives, and that the Indian military should be expelled from the country.
