President Solih Meets With Prince Zaid, Advisor To Maldivian Delegation

Jordan's Prince Zeid Raad al Zeid al Hussain; an advisor to the Maldivian delegation to the COP26 summit; has met with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Prince Zeid had previously served as High Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Council. At a meeting held in Glasgow, President Solih said that he valued Prince Zeid's support during his tenure as High Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Council.
In a statement released by the President's Office prior to the meeting, President Solih expressed his gratitude to Prince Zeid for agreeing to serve as an advisor to the Maldivian delegation. The statement said that the delegation's association with Prince Zeid was an honour, and that his experience would hopefully result in much mutually beneficial progress. The statement also read that climate change severely affected small island nations, such as the Maldives, and said that COP26 was a very important summit for the nation.
Prince Zeid had expressed his pleasure at the opportunity of working with the delegation.
The meeting then highlighted upon the importance of financial aid to help overcome the challenges faced by small island nations as a result of climate disasters.
Minister of Environment, Aminath Shauna, and the Maldivian ambassador to the United States, Thilmeeza Hussain, were present with President Solih at the meeting.
Prince Zeid is the CEO and President of the International Peace Institute. He served as the High Commissioner of the UN Human Rights Council from 2008 to 2014. Prince Zeid, a career diplomat, has been Jordan's permanent representative to the United Nations for the past 14 years. Prince Zeid, who had worked as a peacekeeper in Yugoslavia, belongs to old royal family of Iraq.
