MDP has an Unclean philosophy: Dr Jameel

Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has accused President Solih of exercising undue influence over the rule of law.

Dr Jameel; who currently serves as an advisor to the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM); stated through his public Twitter account that "it was clearly apparent that [President Solih] exercises undue influence over the rule of law". In his tweet, Dr Jameel alleged that "no member, minister, or MP of the MDP who had received funds from SOF would be prosecuted".

SOF Pvt Ltd is a Maldivian company that had been involved in a massive embezzlement scandal that had involved the publicly-held Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Having attached a photo of Ahmed Mahloof; Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment; seated beside President Solih while attending the opening match of the 2021 SAFF Championship, Dr Jameel further stated that he expected to see that all charges against Mahloof be dropped as well. He said that the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) were adherents of an "unclean philosophy".

Dr Jameel had previously worked closely with the MDP following the termination of his tenure as Vice President in the Yameen administration. He had been active in the campaign that thwarted Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's bid for re-election and brought the Solih administration to power in 2018.

However, in recent years, Dr Jameel had rejoined the PPM and currently serves as the head of former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's legal team. Several politicians who had previously supported the Solih administration have jumped ship to join the opposition.
