President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih departed to New York City, United States, to attend the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The President's office stated that President Solih was accompanied on this trip by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level Maldivian delegation.
President Solih will address this at the 76th session of the UNGA on Tuesday, 21st September 2021. The President will also participate in several bilateral and multilateral discussions with state and government leaders during his trip.
President Office further stated that this year marks a particularly momentous occasion in Maldives' history in the UN, with a Maldivian serving as the President of the General Assembly for the first time.
President Solih had previously attended UN General Assembly in 2019. The tickets alone had cost MVR 2,057,536,86 since the delegates that had traveled at that time had traveled on business class.
Even though it was not clear the level of hotel in which the President and his delegates stayed, the expenditures for food and accommodation on the trip came up to an amount of MVR 1,855,388,2. Additionally, another MVR 141,595 was spent as pocket money. It is noteworthy that as incidentals an amount of MVR 98,652.04 was spent.
