The Maldivian government and India’s Afcons Infrastructure today have signed the agreement to begin practical work of the Thilamale’ Bridge Project.
The Greater Male’ Connectivity Project connecting Male’, Villimale’, and Gulhifalhu was signed with Afcons Infrastructure in a special ceremony held today at Hotel Jen.
Permanent Secretary at the Planning Ministry Zeeniya Hameed signed the document on the ministry’s behalf, while Afcons Infrastructure’s Director R. Andar Kumar signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
The bridge project is worth USD 500 million. USD 400 million is to be provided through the line of credit or loan from India’s EXIM Bank to the Maldives.
The navigational bridge reaching Thilafushi will be 140 meters long. The bridge will also include 141-meter air ducts in deeper areas under the bridge, 2.32-kilometer marine air ducts in shallow areas, and 2.9-meter marine roads.
