Male' City Council Does Not Have Jurisdiction Over The Industrial Village: Govt

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has notified the Male’ City Council that the Male’ Industrial Village is not under the council’s jurisdiction.

The ministry sent its notice following the city council clearing land owned by State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) in the Industrial Village.

The letter addressed to Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu signed by Minister of State for National Planning Akram Kamaaluddin read that the plot of land in the Industrial Village given to STELCO does not belong to the Male’ City Council.

The ministry also requested the council to return all of STELCO’s confiscated property.

STELCO informed local media that the council has taken the fences surrounding STELCO’s property in the Industrial Village. According to the company, the council lost materials to be used to install CCTV cameras while clearing the area.
