Maldives Media Council (MMC) has decided that the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions' request to investigate Dhiyares and the Maldives Journal regarding an article on the Deputy Indian High Commissioner was against procedure.
At the latest meeting held by MMC, the council decided that the parliamentary committee's request to investigate Dhiyares and TMJ violated procedures and regulations.
Chair of the Independent Institutions Committee Rozaina Adam reported the matter to MMC without prior discussion or decision made among committee members. Rozaina was heavily criticized in relation to the incident.
While questioning Media Council members summoned to the committee, Rozaina claimed that laws needed to be reformed to penalize media outlets.
