Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer declared that the Maldivian economy will be recovered by the end of the year.
Speaking on stimulus loans available to small and medium enterprises due to COVID-19, the minister stated that the loans are to aid in reviving the economy, and the government will spare no expense to recover the Maldivian economy to what it was in 2019.
Minister Ameer observed that at the current speed, there will be an 18 percent increase in economic growth. “The government intends to spare no expense to recover the economy to what it was in 2019, before COVID-19. We expect to reach our goal by the end of the year”, said Ameer.
The Maldivian economy last year was greatly affected by safety measures put forth due to COVID-19. Economic growth decreased by 34 percent, and the state lost MVR 15 billion of its expected income.
