Minister of Defense Mariya Didi, on Monday, will be summoned to Parliament for questioning regarding the May 6 attack on former President and incumbent Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.
The inquiry led by the parliament’s National Security Committee intends to clarify how the incident occurred if there were signs before the attack, and how to prevent future occurrences.
A committee member confirmed the summons and revealed that the former president, his family, and political affiliates accused Mariya of ignoring intel and neglecting to take proper action.
The minister’s unwillingness to allow for individual inquires with MNDF officers garnered disapproval from President Nasheed’s supporters. Previously, Minister Mariya stated she would offer full cooperation in the investigation.
The IED detonated in the attack near his home left Speaker Nasheed with serious injuries. He is currently in Germany seeking further treatment.
