President Lies Regarding Gulhifalhu

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has falsely stated that the former administration had no plans to develop housing at Gulhifalhu island.
On 27th July 2018, President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom launched a housing plan titled “Villimale’ 2” which consisted of Fushidhiggaru Falhu and Gulhifalhu together. President Yameen also announced that he plans on connecting Gulhifalhu, Thilafushi, Male’ and Villimale’ via a bridge.
During the speech given at the Independence Day ceremony, President Yameen stated that when air travel is secure, the project to connect Maldives via sea is a guarantee and that it is with great happiness that he ensures the citizens of Maldives about the hopes of connecting Gulhifalhu-Male-Villimale’ together by a bridge.
Despite President Solih stating that the previous government had no solid housing initiatives, a source well acquainted with the housing schemes developed by the government informed Dhiyares News that after the development of the Thilafushi-Male’ business port, Gulhifalhu is to be a “port city” and that Hulhumale’ is to be developed as an “airport city” and that all the plans to do so have been drawn up and completed and to be budgeted soon.
After reconsideration by the government and deciding to change the port to Thilafushi instead, this government stated that this was not according to the previous government’s plan and requested that Gulhifalhu be maintained as such.
