The plan to commence flights between Maafaru (Noonu atoll) and Mumbai, India have been delayed until further notice.
The plan had been announced by Maldivian on March 13.
Maldivian’s newly-appointed Deputy Managing Director, Mohamed Mihadh, said that the flights will be scheduled thrice a week between Mumbai and Maafaru. He had said that all preparations to commence have been made.
The decision was delayed until further notice due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai .
As the daily number of COVID-19 cases rise to almost a 100,000 per day in India; Mumbai's state, Maharashtra, has the highest number of infections in India.
Restrictions in Mumbai have been tightened and multiple businesses have been closed down with lockdowns in place.
