Government Servers Under Investigation for Security Breaches After UTF Agreement Leak

Mariya Didi and Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdullah Shamal.
An IT team from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have inspected the servers of the President’s Office, the Foreign Ministry, and the Attorney General’s Office for evidence of a security breach.
As part of an investigation initiated by the MNDF in response to the leaking of a draft of the Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) agreement. The Defence Ministry’s servers were inspected first, followed by the servers of the President’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The government is under immense pressure regarding the leaking of the UTF document. The document is classified, and has only been accessible to few individuals. Neither Cabinet Ministers nor Generals within the MNDF had seen the agreement.
According to a General speaking to Dhiyares, the sister-newspaper of The Maldives Journal, on the condition of anonymity: India had spent up to $20 million USD in bribes to ensure that the agreement was signed.
