President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was caught off-guard by a group of journalists who approached him on the street last night. President Solih has remained aloof from the press for more than 6 months.
The last press conference that President Solih had held had been in June 2020. The President's reluctance to meet the press in the following months had lead to several questions being posed to the Presidential Spokesman. Both Spokesperson Mabrouq Aziz, and his predecessor Ibrahim Hood, had said that the President would meet with the press once he "had some time" to do so.
During the 2018 campaign, Solih had promised to meet with the press once a month. While the President's Office has claimed that the President does not have time to meet with the press, President Solih does appear to have time to conduct breakfast meetings with celebrities.
Speaking to the journalists on the street, President Solih said that he would indeed hold a press conference on Wednesday.
