Yameen will Remain Opposition Leader even if Law Changes: Adam Shareef Umar

Even if the laws were changed, the leader of the Opposition would still be the incarcerated former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, said PNC VP Adam Shareef Umar.

He said this in a tweet he made in response to statements made by several MDP members regarding a bill being drafted by the MDP Parliamentary Group to grant the Opposition leader legal standing. The MDP have said that with the passing of the bill into law, the Opposition leader would enjoy special privileges and protections.

Adam Shareef Umar wrote that if the MDP so wished to grant the Opposition leader legal standing, the first thing they should do would be to free the former President Yameen from his unjust incarceration.

He also said that the MDP would have experienced that the PPM/PNC would have no leader other than the former President Yameen. Even if the law were to change, the Opposition leader would not be anyone other than Yameen, he said.
