President Solih, Mariya, and Shamal Meet About Threatening Fliers Dumped at MNDF HQ

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi, and Chief of the Defence Forces, Maj. Gen. Abdullah Shamal have met regarding the “threatening fliers” that had been dumped inside the headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force.
The fliers had contained many accusations against high officials of the MNDF and the government. The fliers had expressed discontent regarding not receiving the COVID-19 Frontline Allowance, as well.
The fliers had also warned Minister Marya and Maj. Gen. Shamal to “not deceive themselves” into thinking that they could silence MNDF servicepeople by “gifting them promotions and cars”.
The fliers had warned officials that they could not rest after having “devoured” the COVID-19 Frontline Allowance funds, and they should let go of any delusions of using those funds for their own profit. The fliers had ominously warned that the “Finifenmaa Launch incident may happen again”; a reference to the failed assassination attempt against former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
Neither the MNDF nor the government have made any comment regarding these fliers. According to reliable sources, the President’s Office has taken this as a serious issue and had called for a meeting with Minister Mariya, Maj. Gen. Shamal, and had also called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee.
Several MNDF servicepeople had received promotions recently, and many personnel within the MNDF had expressed their discontent about how the promotions had been given out.
