The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) have collected MVR 3,670,298 in zakat al mal in January 2021.
MIRA had collected MVR 3,600,492 in January 2020. The total sum of zakat al mal collected this year had increased slightly.
Zakat al mal made up 0.2% of the total revenue collected by the government in January.
In the past year, the government collected a lump sum total of MVR 60,420,287; this made up 0.6% of the government's total revenue.
The nisab of zakat al mal in the Maldives is MVR 6,961.5. Muslims pay out 2.5% of all accumulated wealth that exceeds the nisaab amount every year, and it is a fundamental obligation on all believers.
It is noteworthy that relatively few people pay zakat al mal in the Maldives.
