President Solih’s Sister Gets Hiyaa Flat

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s sister received a Hiyaa flat.
The 7,000 Hiyaa housing flats were constructed under the administration of former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom and had been allocated to their rightful owners prior to President Solih’s inauguration. President Solih had claimed that there had been “corruption” in the process of allocation, and had established a Flat Committee to revise the previous government’s allocations.
According to the final lists published by the Flat Committee yesterday, Aishath Mohamed Solih had received the flat through the special allocation for Civil Servants. Her name appears high in the list, having been given a total of 90 points by the Flat Committee.
Although President Solih’s sister received a flat, the President had previously claimed that the flats were unfit for human habitation. President Solih had claimed that even people who were assigned to live in the flats would leave them because of how unpleasant the flats would be.
President Solih’s son and daughter own stakes in a large real-estate company that operates in the Greater Malé Region. Some of the apartments leased out by the company are significantly smaller than a Hiyaa housing unit.
