Chemotherapy service begins in Naifaru

Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital has commenced Chemotherapy services. With this, the hospital in Naifaru becomes the first health facility to commence chemotherapy services outside the Malé region.
The service was introduced at the request of a cancer patient. The 70-year-old patient who requested the service requires chemotherapy thrice weekly.
Chemotherapy services commenced in Naifaru with the support of the President’s office and Hulhumale Hospital. Hulhumale Hospital has developed an 8-bed unit for the project. There are 6 patients who have to receive treatment in the island. Two of these patients are currently receiving chemotherapy treatment from Hulhumale Hospital.
The Maldives have numerous patients who are receiving treatment for cancer. However, several concerns have been raised since all treatment facilities were centralized in the Malé region.
