Ensis Fisheries Pvt Ltd and Xinguang Show Beijing Commercial Management Corporation Limited, Signing ceremony
Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s efforts to expand Maldivian products into the global market are yielding positive results, as the country begins fish exports to China under the Maldives-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The announcement follows an agreement signed between local company Ensis Fisheries Pvt Ltd and Xinguang Show Beijing Commercial Management Corporation Limited, marking a significant milestone in Maldivian fisheries exports. The signing ceremony was held in Beijing, attended by Maldivian Ambassador to China Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, State Minister for Fisheries and Ocean Resources Dr. Amzath Ahmed, and representatives from leading Chinese media outlets.
Under the agreement, Ensis Fisheries will export canned and frozen tuna to China, with the first shipment scheduled for mid-March. The products will be distributed in Beijing and surrounding provinces, as well as through online platforms.
Minister Saeed congratulated Ensis Fisheries on entering the Chinese market and credited President Muizzu’s leadership in facilitating international trade. He emphasized that the swift implementation of the FTA is already delivering tangible benefits to Maldivian businesses.
The Maldives-China Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect on January 1, is expected to boost exports and re-exports, creating new business and employment opportunities. Given China’s vast market of over 1.41 billion people, economic experts highlight that the agreement will accelerate the growth of Maldivian enterprises and strengthen the national economy.
