Maldives Joins Open Government Partnership as Official Member

During the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting in Manila, Philippines
Maldives has officially become a member of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a move aimed at fostering transparency, accountability, and public participation in governance.
The announcement was made during the OGP Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting held in Manila, Philippines. Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef, shared the news via social media, emphasizing that this step aligns with the President’s vision for a more transparent and accountable government.
Minister Adam Shareef highlighted that joining the OGP will enhance civil society engagement, improve governance structures, and support anti-corruption measures. He stated that this initiative reflects the President’s foresight and commitment to good governance and that through OGP, the Maldives aims to create an environment that fosters public participation and strengthens accountability.
During the OGP Asia and Pacific Regional Meeting, Minister Shareef met with senior officials from the Philippines, UNDP, and representatives from other countries. Discussions focused on initiatives that could be implemented in the Maldives to further enhance governance and development.
The OGP Regional Meeting, held from February 5–8, brought together government leaders, policymakers, civil society organizations, and international stakeholders to exchange insights and strategies on open governance.
