Since the vaping ban under the Tobacco Control Act took effect on December 15, police have fined nine individuals, with penalties totaling MVR 50,000.
Among them, one individual received an additional MVR 10,000 fine for vaping while riding a motorcycle.
Key fines under the law:
- MVR 5,000: For vaping.
- MVR 10,000: For distribution of vapes.
- MVR 20,000: For sale of vapes, plus MVR 10,000 per unit sold.
- MVR 50,000: For selling vapes to anyone under 21.
Offenders are notified via text, and fines can be paid online through Vaaru Pay.
This enforcement underscores efforts to protect public health and curb tobacco use nationwide.
