Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions has unanimously approved the appointment of Mariyam Insha Faisal as a member of the National Integrity Commission (NIC). Her nomination, submitted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on November 23, follows the conclusion of former member Ahmed Jihadh’s term.
Mariyam Insha Faisal brings extensive experience in law enforcement oversight, having previously served on the Police Integrity Commission before its transition to the NIC in 2015. She later became an investigator at the NIC, holding the position until January 2024. Insha holds a degree in the legislative field and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree, further enhancing her expertise.
With this appointment, the NIC is now fully staffed with five members: President Gasim Abdul Kareem, Vice President Aishath Shiuna, and members Aminath Shadhiya, Shuaib Abdul Rahman, and Mariyam Insha Faisal. The commission is tasked with investigating cases and complaints involving law enforcement agencies and ensuring accountability within the sector.
Insha’s appointment is expected to strengthen the NIC’s capacity to uphold integrity and transparency within Maldives' law enforcement, aligning with the administration’s commitment to reinforcing public trust in these institutions.
