Zakat House has inaugurated the first-ever International Zakat Conference in the Maldives. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Ali Zahir bin Saeed Qasim, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University, who graced the occasion with his presence.
In his address, Dr. Zahir expressed his hope that the conference would generate valuable ideas to shape the management of Zakat affairs in the country. He emphasized that proper management of the Zakat Fund could significantly reduce the number of people living in poverty. "The number of zakat payers in the Maldives is increasing, but there is still a need to further boost zakat payments. Awareness must be raised to achieve this," Dr. Zahir stated.
The objective of the seminar is to establish an efficient and accessible Zakat framework tailored to the social and economic context of the Maldives, thereby facilitating sustainable development through the system. The seminar aims to contribute to the development of a robust and sustainable Zakat system in the Maldives.
Various institutions from both the Maldives and Malaysia are participating in the seminar, with renowned religious scholars and experts in Islamic finance and economics serving as panelists. Four keynote speeches and four panel discussions are scheduled throughout the event. The seminar will continue until tonight.
