Maldives Reaffirms Commitment to Fighting Corruption at OIC Meeting

Maldives' Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, emphasized the nation's dedication to combating corruption at the Second Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies in OIC Member States. The two-day meeting, hosted by Qatar, brought together representatives from across the Islamic world to address the pressing challenge of corruption.
Minister Ihusaan highlighted the damaging effects of corruption, noting how it undermines governance, hinders development, and erodes societal values. He stressed that combating corruption requires strong collaboration among OIC member states. “The OIC provides a powerful platform to unite our efforts, pool resources, and share best practices,” he said, advocating for partnerships, regional frameworks, and capacity-building to strengthen institutions.
He also emphasized the role of innovation and technology, including digital transparency mechanisms, e-governance, and public accountability systems in reducing corruption. Additionally, he called for instilling values of integrity and justice in youth as vital for ethical governance.
Minister Ihusaan announced that the Maldives, in collaboration with Saudi Arabia, will host an international forum titled "Enhancing Integrity in the Tourism Sector" from May 6–7, 2025, to tackle corruption in the tourism industry.
On behalf of Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the nation's Anti-Corruption Commission, Minister Ihusaan reaffirmed the Maldives' commitment to the global fight against corruption. He concluded, "Together, guided by the principles of Islam and the vision of the OIC, we can build a future of integrity, prosperity, and justice for all our people."
