A DHL cargo plane crashed into a two-story building near Vilnius Airport early this morning, killing one person and injuring several others, authorities and the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT confirmed.
The incident occurred at 5:31 AM local time, causing a massive fire that emergency services quickly extinguished. The building’s occupants escaped unharmed, and the pilot of the aircraft also was not injured. However, three other crew members sustained serious injuries.
A senior Lithuanian security official reported that two of the injured were taken to a hospital, where one was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the crash, which raises further safety concerns for DHL this year. In July, explosives were discovered at the company’s logistics hubs in Germany and the UK, prompting an international inquiry.
This incident highlights the continuing challenges faced by the global logistics giant.
