President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that efforts are underway to establish a Maldivian Embassy in Italy, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening international relations. The President made this statement during the Republic Day ceremony, where he highlighted the Maldives’ ongoing diplomatic expansion.
President Muizzu emphasized that enhancing bilateral ties is a central objective of his administration’s foreign policy. Italy, one of the Maldives’ top tourist markets, recorded 116,195 arrivals so far this year, making the country a strategic location for a Maldivian diplomatic mission. The new embassy will add to the Maldives’ existing network of 16 embassies and high commissions worldwide.
This embassy aims to foster stronger cooperation with Italy, benefiting both tourism and trade sectors. With the necessary authorization secured, the Maldives’ mission in Italy is expected to facilitate diplomatic, economic, and cultural exchanges, creating more opportunities for collaboration.
